Head of EMEA Business, Head of North America Business

Luis Iglesias is Santen’s Head of EMEA and North America, with regional responsibilities for commercialization in Europe, Middle East, Africa, USA and Canada.

Luis has a strong international background as a native of Spain who has also lived and worked in the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland and Portugal. His regional and global experience as a pharmaceutical and medical-device executive includes such well-known companies as AbbVie (Allergan), Eli Lilly, Abbott, Covidien (Medtronic) and Beckton Dickinson (BD Europe).

After joining Santen in 2017 to lead the EMEA region, Luis took on additional responsibilities in North America in late 2021. Over the last five years, he has led the evolution of the Santen EMEA team’s ophthalmology portfolio via a number of external partnerships and internal transformations in addition to successfully growing the overall business and attracting top talent for key functions throughout the regional organization.

In late 2021, Luis assumed responsibility for the Americas, where he has completed the integration of Eyevance into the Santen family and licensed and launched Verkazia – the first Santen ophthalmology product in the U.S. market – to treat vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC), a recurrent ocular inflammatory disease that occurs in both children and adults.

Luis has an extensive record of building franchises and driving growth across ophthalmology and medical devices. He has specialized in the field of ophthalmology for the last 10 years, gaining valuable experience with international launches in key Santen fields such as glaucoma, dry eye, and retina and rare eye diseases. Early in his career, Luis also led and executed successful marketing programmes across multiple therapeutic areas at Abbott, Merck and Eli Lilly.

Luis holds a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Murcia, Spain.
