Robert Wagner, Global Head of Medical Tech Solutions since April 2022, is leading Santen’s expansion into the fields of connected medical devices and medical technology solutions as well as further leveraging the company’s core-business strengths under the Santen mission of ensuring Happiness with Vision for everyone.

Prior to joining Santen in April 2021, Robert was part of the global management team at Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) and General Manager of Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea from 2017 to 2021, after serving as Commercial Director Asia Pacific from 2014 to 2017. He also was with The Boston Consulting Group from 2004 to 2014.

While at Abbott, Robert formulated and executed growth strategies, which included playing a lead role in commercializing new continuous glucose monitoring and digital ecosystems, marketed respectively as FreeStyle Libre, FreeStyle LibreLink and LibreView in Asia Pacific. His successful launches of the FreeStyle Libre system in Southeast Asia and South Korea significantly benefited the lives of diabetes patients as well as their caregivers and families.

At Santen, Robert is responsible for creating and commercializing unique ophthalmic devices and comprehensive tech-enabled solutions, for which he collaborates closely with Twenty Twenty Therapeutics (TTT), a joint venture between Santen and Verily Life Sciences.

His Medical Technology Solutions department also is collaborating with global Santen departments to develop advanced solutions that are truly approachable and accessible for those in need, reflecting Santen’s 2030 goal of becoming a social innovator that offers superior ophthalmic solutions for diverse eye-related diseases worldwide.

Robert holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Graz University of Technology, Austria.
