Santen Obtains Marketing Approval in Republic of Korea for STN1012700 (Ryjusea 0.25mg/mL Ophthalmic Solution), an Ophthalmic Solution to Slow the Progression of Myopia

November 2, 2026 – Osaka, Japan – Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Santen”), announced today that it has received marketing approval in the Republic of Korea for STN1012700 (Ryjusea 0.25mg/mL Ophthalmic Solution), an ophthalmic solution indicated to slow the progression of myopia. This marks the second marketing approval for the product in Santen’s Asia business region*, following the Philippines.

In Japan, the product has been available since April 2025 under the brand name Ryjusea® Mini Ophthalmic Solution 0.025%. STN1012700 is a preservative-free, unit-dose ophthalmic solution, designed to provide consistent dosing and support safe, long-term use primarily in children. The efficacy of this product is based on the results  from ORANGE, a Phase II/III placebo-controlled, double-masked clinical study conducted in Japan.

Myopia is projected to affect 39.9% of the global population by 2030 and 49.8% by 2050. 1 The recent increase in myopia is believed to be attributable to lifestyle changes, particularly a combination of a decrease in the amount of time children spend outdoors and an increase in near-work activities—such as reading, studying, and using digital devices—which involve prolonged close-up viewing. 2,3 Additionally, data from a 2025 survey released by the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Education, indicates that 30.41% of first-grade elementary school students either currently require vision correction (such as glasses) or had an uncorrected visual acuity of 0.7 or lower in at least one eye; among first-grade middle school students, the prevalence was 66.38%, while for first-grade high school students it was 74.45%. 4

At Santen, we are committed to advancing eye health and to improving outcomes for children affected by myopia. We will continue our efforts to make this new treatment available to patients across Asia, including South Korea and other markets in the region.
