Measures against Climate Change

Santen strives to help mitigate climate change by reducing its CO2 emissions, utilizing low-carbon resources and energies, and other means.

Information on measures against climate change is disclosed in Environment Data

Reduction of Greenhouse Gas (CO₂) Emissions from Santen

Santen makes efforts to reduce CO2 emissions aiming for net zero greenhouse gas emissions.

The CO2 emissions in FY2022 was 22,619 tons which is 24.6% reduction from FY2021 due to the completion of conversion to renewable energy at plants and the laboratory in Japan by February in 2022. CO2 emissions per unit of revenue was 81 t-CO2 per billion yen which is 28.3% decrease from FY2021. We also properly manage chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which have an impact on global warming, and are below the legal reporting standards in Japan, where the majority of our products are produced. In addition, with the setting of the 2030 target, the boundary and CO2 conversion factors have been revised to the SBTi standard and retroactively revised from FY2019 onward.

Reduction of Greenhouse Gas (CO₂) Emissions from our Supply Chains

In Japan, we assess not only Greenhouse Gas (CO2) emissions from Santen, but also those from Scope 3, in other words, our supply chains resulting from the purchase of raw materials, the distribution of products, and the movement of employees and strive to reduce CO2 emissions. In FY2022, Scope 3 CO2 emissions amounted to 133,451 tons, 8.2% higher than in FY2021, and the emissions per unit of revenue were 679 tons per billion yen, 5.0% higher compared to FY2021.

Promotion of Energy Conversion and Reduction

In the renewal of facilities at plants that use a large amount of energy, we promote the introduction of equipment with higher energy consumption efficiency, leading to a reduction in environmental impact through energy conservation and conversion. In addition, we are seeking specific action plans, such as further conversion to electricity derived from renewable energy sources, conversion of energy sources, and technological innovation for high-efficiency use, with the aim of realizing a decarbonized society.
