June 9, 2025, Osaka, Japan – Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Santen) announced that it has joined the “Vision Consortium” established by Mainichi Shimbun as a corporate member.
The Vision Consortium, launched in January 2025, is a non-profit consortium consisting of 11 companies, eight organizations that share its mission, along with two media companies, and two advisors who bring both lived experience and influential voices to the initiative. Consortium members seek to break down barriers separating the visually impaired and visually able to create a more inclusive society. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the invention of braille, and the consortium was established under the initiative of Mainichi Shimbun, which has been publishing Japan’s only braille newspaper—Tenji Mainichi—for more than a century. As a company specialized in eye health, Santen seeks to realize a society that is inclusive to all regardless of visual impairment. Through participation in the Vision Consortium, Santen hopes to share its vision-related knowledge and technologies and contribute to the promotion of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) in society.
Santen provided experiential content for the consortium’s first official activity, the “200th Anniversary of the Invention of Braille: Experiencing the World of the Visually Impaired,” a media event held from April 19-24, 2025 at the EXPO 2025 Osaka-Kansai.
